General information about Taivalkoski municipal

Taivalkoski is a small municipal of ca. 5000 inhabitants in the North-East of Finland. About half of the population lives in the municipal centre, which is situated by the main road number 20. The connections to the nearest towns are excellent: the nearest airports are in Kuusamo (70 km) and Oulu (160 km). The bus connections are good: there are several bus lines to both directions every day.

During winter time you can enjoy winter sports from cross-country skiing to swimming in the icy river, not to mention skating, downhill skiing or ski jumping! In the warm summer days you can go rowing or fishing on the river Iijoki. For more experienced paddlers there is a paddling centre right in the heart of the municipal centre, where you can try river boogie or shooting rapids. The clean, peaceful nature and beautiful landscapes offer hikers and other wanderers many spots to relax and get new experiences.
